"Smash Cake" Hats Are All The Rage

I was recently asked by Valerie at QueeniebabeBoutique.etsy.com to make some cake charms for a fascinator hat for her smash cake photo shoot. I guess I've been out of the loop because I didn't know what that was, but thanks to Valerie I have a new appreciation for this adorable trend.

The new rage among parents is to have a "smash cake" professional photo shoot when their baby turns one. These photo shoots have props, costumes, themed cakes, and fascinator hats. Check out this cute news spot...

Valerie's theme for this hat was to be very Marie Antoinette/Louis XIV extravagant. She gave me the colors she wanted to use and I made 6 slices of cake from polymer clay. I added sprinkles, pearls, and gold hearts. I was so happy to see that they look perfect on Valerie's hat!

Check out Valerie's Etsy page. I'm making more cake slices for her and she's making more hats!!
